Part 1 | Session 2 Dr Kodali on VDyne TTVR, Device Design, and Early Clinical Experience
In this episode of Nail it with Nadira, Dr Firas Zahr traces the development of the Intrepid transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) system from its origins as a transcatheter mitral valve platform to its latest tricuspid-specific iteration. He reviews the key engineering changes made throughout the early feasibility programme, including a smaller delivery system, softer valve frame, reduced ventricular interaction and expanded sizing designed to accommodate larger tricuspid anatomies.
Dr Zahr explains how lessons learned from the first 150 patients treated have influenced procedural techniques, patient selection and device design. He also discusses which anatomical characteristics may make patients suitable for Intrepid TTVR, how evolving technology has reduced some of the early procedural limitations, and the considerations surrounding conduction-system interaction and pacemaker implantation.
The conversation also explores the planned global pivotal trial, including its randomised design, comparison with the Edwards EVOQUE platform and the long-term aim of establishing the safety, effectiveness and durability of TTVR. Firas Zahr
Director of Interventional Cardiology and Associate Professor of Medicine
Dr Firas Zahr is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University. At the same institution, he is the Director of Interventional Cardiology and Co-Director of the Structural Heart Disease program.
Dr Zahr earned his MD from the University of Damascus in 2002 and has been in practice for more than 20 years. He further specialised with an Interventional Cardiology Structural Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and his research focuses on cardiac catheterization, transcatheter valve therapies and interventional cardiology. Alongside his investigations, Dr Zahr has written over a hundred publications in peer reviewed journals focusing on valvular heart disease management.
