In this Market Watch interview, Brad Wilson speaks with Dr Ethan Korngold, Chief Medical Officer and Divisional Vice President, Medical Affairs for Abbott Vascular, about how percutaneous coronary intervention is evolving beyond the device toward procedural precision, imaging and intelligent decision support.

Dr Korngold frames the central challenge of contemporary PCI as matching the right treatment to the right patient at the right time, now that operators have an unprecedented range of effective tools. Building on the evidence base for drug-eluting stents such as Xience, he describes a shift toward insights drawn from the procedure itself, with intravascular imaging and OCT through the Ultreon system used to characterise lesions and guide treatment selection. The discussion also addresses workflow simplification — framed as a "GPS of the cath lab" — the role of AI in turning high-resolution OCT and physiology data into reproducible insight, and a longer-term move toward lifetime coronary artery disease management, including Abbott's emphasis on bioresorbable scaffolds and a "leave nothing behind" strategy.

This video presents Abbott's perspective on these developments within the wider coronary intervention landscape.
